Dear Parents and Carers,
We are all very aware of the news about Russia and Ukraine and this is reported over social media. It’s natural to be worried or upset when you see things in the news., but we are here to support ALL of our families.
Childline have a specific page for children that we can signpost families to if they would like support on how to talk to their child about the situation, it is also a useful resource for us in school.

Support available in school:
We have our wonderful team of Mental health Champions available for everyone to talk to.
Mrs Derer our Parent Support Advisor will be working with both children and their families as usual.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead team are particularly conscious of the need to support our families closely and be vigilant on their behalf in the wider community.
Senior Leaders are working across both schools developing strategies to support our Mousehold and George White communities.
Staff and parents/carers are all pivotal in noticing children who may be struggling and worrying about the conflict. They may be quiet or you may see it through behaviours but we can all…
- Make time and listen when a child wants to talk
- Tailor the conversation to the child
- Validate their feelings
- Reassure them that adults all over the world are working hard to resolve this
Please don’t hesitate to talk to us if you would either like more advice on how to talk to your child or would like someone to talk to about your own feelings. Class staff and school leaders are dealing with this in an age appropriate way ensuring we are sensitive and thoughtful in our talk, actions and discussion.
Kind regards
Rebecca Westall
