Newsletter 19th July 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have made it to the end of term and to the end of the academic year. You should be so proud of your children and all they have achieved. They have shown such stamina and resilience. The children have met their new teachers and teaching assistants and have enjoyed time in their new classrooms.

Well done to our Year 2 children for their excellent Leavers performance to parents and carers and for the amazing end of year celebration of their time at Mousehold. I always feel extremely proud seeing the children perform with such confidence and enjoyment.

Enjoy the summer holiday and we will see you back at school on Wednesday 4th September. We wish all the Year 2’s every success as they move onto Year 3 in a different school. They will have a wonderful time on the next part of their journey!

Have a fantastic summer break!

Thank you to the staff

Thank you to all the staff for working so hard, for being fully committed to the children of Mousehold and for always going the extra mile. Mousehold is a special place to work, and the strong supportive team makes all the difference. The staff deserve a restful break with their families, and we look forward to all being together again in September.

Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge is a flexible programme open to children aged 4- 11 (with a ‘mini’ challenge for under 4s) that is designed for all levels of ability. Children can visit their local library and sign up to the Challenge for free; they will just need to be a library member. (Remember, it is free to join your local library).

At sign-up, you will receive your ‘Ready, Set, Read!’ core pack folder and set a personal reading goal for the summer. Children can read anything they like: fiction, fact books, poetry, joke books, picture books, graphic novels, audiobooks… they will collect special stickers from the library each time they finish a book and receive a certificate and medal for taking part, or for reaching their Challenge goal. Alternatively, children can participate in the Challenge online.

Sign up at Summer Reading Challenge  (summerreadingchallenge.org.uk) where you can download e-books as a library member for free. Each time children finish a book they can add it to their online profile and leave a review. They will unlock digital badges and online rewards along the way. Children can also play games, enter competitions, share book recommendations and more on the free, safe, moderated platform.

Change to PE kit for next year

From September, we would like to see a return to a slightly more formal PE kit, as some children are arriving on PE days in clothes and shoes that are not appropriate or safe.

The PE Kit will be as follows:

A plain white or red T-shirt or polo shirt

Shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms in either plain dark blue, plain dark grey or plain black

Jumper or hoodie in either plain dark blue, plain dark grey or plain black OR they can just wear their red school jumper or cardigan

Trainers or plimsolls – sandals are not suitable footwear for a PE session

On allocated PE days (to be confirmed for the next academic year), children can come to school in their PE kit for the day, but the above criteria needs to be followed. Thanks for your co-operation.

Safeguarding

As the weather warms up and summer holidays are on the horizon please look after each other.

Some simple things to remember:

  • Wear sunhats and wear sun-cream in hot weather, even if cloudy (The irony being that it is poring down as I type!)
  • Wear helmets when riding a bike.
  • Remind your children to take care when crossing the road or walking along the path next to a busy road.
  • Wear seatbelts in cars.
