Dear Parents and Carers,
The highlight of this week has been our Year 1 and 2 school trip to the Cathedral. This is the first school trip these children have been on, due to the Covid restrictions the last 2 years. The staff worked hard to make this happen and it involved a long walk there and back. The children were a credit to the school and really enjoyed it. We had this lovely e-mail from a parent,
‘My son has absolutely loved going on the trip. He has been talking about what he learned there and was excited to tell us it was built 900 years ago and there was lots of gold there. He also knew where the lime stone came from. He said he has learned so much from going there, and it is great to see him coming out of school so happy and excited. Thank you.’
We could really see how the children accessed their prior learning to be able to relate it to a new context. Children could talk confidently about what they knew about the Christian faith and places of worship and relate it to the different activities they experienced.
Well done Year 1 and 2!
Partnership News
Mrs Westall and Mrs Petchey have been working together to plan the information evening for Year 2 parents. This will be after half-term and a date will follow soon. There will be two Year 3 classes, instead of the usual three, as the current Year 2 cohort is smaller than our other year groups. We will make sure you know your child’s new class before the information evening. We will ensure the transition is smooth for all children and we will arrange extra visits to the junior school for the children who would benefit from extra transition.
Please take time to look at our school websites. They have been updated recently. You can read about our curriculums and get a feel for both schools:
Learning Through Landscapes £500 grant
We were excited to hear this week that we have been awarded a Learning Through Landscapes £500 grant to support our outdoor learning curriculum. This means we will be receiving some fantastic new open-ended play equipment to support children’s imaginative play, communication skills and physical development. As part of the grant, our staff will also receive training in developing learning using the outdoors. It took us six attempts of applying, but perseverance finally paid off! We can’t wait to share photos of the children playing with the new equipment once it arrives. Well done to our Curriculum Strategy Group for their success in being awarded this grant.
We want to share our story…
We are very proud of our curriculum at Mousehold and want to share our story.

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations day Friday 27th May
We will be celebrating the event all day on Friday 27th May. This will include a special lunch, royal themed activities and all children and staff can dress in red/white/blue or royal themed outfits (Queen, King, Prince, Princesses etc.) There will be lots of photos on our school Facebook page to share our celebrations. You will have seen that the children have been learning about the Queen and the History related to the Queen this term. The children have been fully engaged in this learning and have produced some excellent work.
Mrs Seaman
Mrs Seaman, our School Secretary, will be retiring at the end of this academic year, after decades of working in the school as well as attending the school herself as a 4 year old. Many parents who attended the school themselves will remember Mrs Seaman. We are making the most of her whilst we still have her!
Annual Parent Survey
Thank you for completing this. We will look at the results, collate them and feedback very soon.

Summer Fayre on the 24th June 3-5pm.
We want to make the Summer Fayre a really fun family event. We have been rummaging through the Friends of Mousehold Infant and Nursery School cupboard and we have found plenty of ideas from previous fayres, but it wouldn’t be a fayre without the support of the pupils, teachers and you (the parents!) Please could you get in touch with the office or admin@thefriendofmousehold.org if you can help us out running a stall on the day or help with the preparations. We are looking for a face painter, musicians and a keen adult footballer, if you know of anyone?
There will be a non-uniform day on Wednesday 15th June for Summer Fayre Raffle prize donations.
Open Classrooms
This is after school, every Friday, and is a chance for you to look at your children’s books and to see their classrooms. All are welcome, every Friday.
Safeguarding
You will see a senior leader and our Parent Support Advisor on the playground most days before school and at the end of the day. We are there to welcome you and also to listen. Please share with us anything that is worrying you or something you might need help with. Small things can become big things if not handled quickly. It is an important part of our job and we want to help you.
Please see our website for all of our policies and more information about safeguarding

A Message from our Mental Health Champions
As Mental Health champions, we’re great advocates of doing things to refuel emotionally. If we are refreshed ourselves, it will often mean we can be more productive in the things we are doing and we may also find we find it easier to care and support those around us.
Taking part in activities that we enjoy can help us not to feel so depleted. We’ve chosen to focus on a recipe this week for you to try at home! You may want to try this on your own first, but you might also consider including your children and cooking together. It can be a great family activity and often children are often more adventurous at trying something new, if they’ve made it themselves.
Pizza
Try these two home-made pizza bases, one yeast based, the other using a scone recipe.

OR if you don’t fancy making a base from scratch, use a shop-bought English muffin or a flour tortilla wrap.
